Much like the recent storm hit the north-west the prior day, Manchester City swept the visitors aside at the Etihad Stadium. It was a statement 3-0 triumph for the City coach's side due to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that clearly signaled their leadership claims as they strengthened their place at the league summit.

Successive Setbacks for United

This scoreline marked consecutive league defeats for the United manager's side for the maiden instance since spring 2024, putting them a sizable gap off the league leaders with their title hopes in serious doubt.

Manchester United's capability to manage domestic and European football with a limited squad has been a hotly discussed topic since they earned a place in the UCL. Looking at the calendar, it always seemed this was the week that would fully examine this ability. Sadly for the opposition, they seemed fatigued throughout, the historic win against PSG clearly having had an impact.

Team Changes

The United manager had tried to freshen things up with a several changes. Ella Toone, Terland, Dominique Janssen and Galton all provided freshness, although the dropping of the in-form Melvine Malard to the substitutes was questioned.

Overpowering Start
