Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
